This was something that hit home with me. One of those things you already know but a reminder every once in a while motivates you.
So, who is your biggest competitor? Immediately you mind wonders to the guy down the street doesn't it? But it's not. Our biggest competitor is our way of thinking.
Think of it this way. As a small business owner/operator, imagine if you were the only person in your shop. You would have to do everything. All production, services, answer the phone, collect receivables and pay the bills. And we all have to do something else, in some form or other, to succeed. You have to sell.
And when we break down selling, we find that the most difficult part is initiating contact with strangers. The "fear of rejection" stigma.
And there is our REAL competition. Ourselves. We compete with ourselves because most of us have inhibitions about making those contacts. Therefore, we don't. I am a perfect example. I hate going to public functions like Chamber "After Hours", dinners, or Rotary. And I'm not an introvert by any means. But things like that take us out of our comfort zone.
So, I face my most fierce competitor in the mirror everyday. Who's going to win today?
Now go sell something!
