The characters of Dilbert certainly aren't role models of positive attitude. But they are examples of how attitudes can affect your business. It rubs off.
Your attitude rubs off on your existing and potential customers, your staff, your suppliers and all those that you come into contact with.
If you maintain a positive attitude, this will be infectious and those around you will pick up on your positive energy. Everyone in your company will feel positive and customers will want to do business with you. This in turn will lead to being able to maximize the performance of your business.
How to keep a positive attitude:
- Look at the bright side – It is easy to focus on the negative when there is so much negative news around. Intentionally change your focus to the positive things you see, no matter how little they might be.
- Monitor your own thoughts – Pay attention to how you think in different situations. If you see your competitors struggling, do you expect to struggle? Or do you see it as an opportunity to find new customers or increase your market share?
- Be positive in front of others – Even if you don't feel positive at the moment, make sure others view you as always having a positive attitude. Your positive attitude will rub off on others.
- Focus on the good stuff – Something good is always happening if you look hard enough. Build on the successes and what has gone well.
- Surround yourself with positive people – It's hard to be positive with everyone around you doing nothing but focusing on the negative. Gravitate toward other positive people. You can encourage and strengthen each other.
- Focus on your business goals – Put yourself in the best position to win. Create believable short-term goals and get your team to buy-in to their achievement.
But it all starts with you. How is your attitude of gratitude? Try a "positive" approach and see what a difference it makes in your business.
